I DON'T LIKE PREACHERS

I thought this was a phenomenon that only happened in Chile. As I like to say, everyone here has a canuto (a demeaning word for evangelicals) inside, no matter how progressive they think they are. What I mean by "canuto" is a person who gives sermons all the time, who wants to make other people repent for their "sins". I can see it a lot, especially on social platforms and discussion forums.

Why are there so many people who feel the urge to correct others when no one has asked for their advice?

They are like that insufferable distant aunt who would scold or lecture you as a kid. I think that's the word and sentiment I was looking for: they are insufferable. These people, I don't know where they find the time and energy to constantly make these kinds of comments online. In their heads, I'm sure they think they are doing a service to the world or something like that. But all they are doing is attracting more insufferable people around them so they can lecture others together.

Why do they feel so entitled to discipline strangers? Who do they think they are, the moral Gestapo?

Could it be a desire for superiority or a need for recognition? Clearly, there's something they are lacking inside.

Now I can see it's a global disease, and I've grown tired of it, so I'm building an immune system against it. I've recognized their patterns, and I don't let myself be emotionally manipulated, especially by the ones who victimize themselves when you answer back. Obviously, this kind of behaviour is more predominant among far-right people (especially the self-victimization) and that's why left leaning people (like myself) tend not to notice this behaviours in themselves.

"It's free speech! I can say what I want. No one is obliged to listen to it."

And there they are, bothering to comment on your post or hit you up online. Sometimes they even accuse you of some stupid bullshit you didn't do or didn't say. These kinds of people are also kinda illiterate. They always read what they want to read and decide to take action based on their own thoughts. It's so counterproductive for everyone.

I try to see these high-horse people as emotionally immature and in need of some sort of therapy. This kind of behaviour is clearly neither psychologically nor socially healthy. I recognize that in my 20s, I used to be a little like this, and it's so exhausting and antagonizing. I'm not saying you have to please everyone, but do you really need to be an asshole every time you see something you don't agree with? I'm aware that there are things that are unacceptable, like genocide, but what do I gain by lecturing Zionists, for example? Am I gonna fall into their same tactics? Lecturing, reprimanding, and self-victimization... all these traits are toxic.

So I urge you to kill your inner "canuto". I know you think you are, but you aren't doing any service to society or the world.
